Study on improved spat collection

The Centre for Shellfish Research executed a study into spatfall collection for oyster culture. In co-operation with a number of oyster cultivators various types of spat collectors were tested. Plastic tubes appeared to be the best methods for spat collection of flat oysters while plastic discs were better for gigas. The study also showed that the survival rate of gigas is better compared to flat oysters. The survival rate of flat oysters on nets is better compared to bottom cultivation.
